Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade Gave a Shout-Out to Daughter Zaya During the GLAAD Awards

Gabrielle Union and her husband, former NBA star Dwyane Wade, made a digital look as presenters finally night time’s (July 30) GLAAD Media Awards, trying fabulous, we should add.

The couple was readily available to give out the honors for Outstanding Drama Series, which went to FX’s Pose, a present that was all however shut out throughout the Emmy nominations earlier this week. (Billy Porter received a nod for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.) 

Wade took the alternative to honor their daughter, Zaya. “We stand as allies with the LGBTQ+ community as proud parents of a transgender child. Our daughter Zaya is leading us in our journey, and we’re doing all we can to give every one of our kids the ability to live their truth,” he stated. “I didn’t always understand how to do that—but I want to thank Zaya for teaching me, and GLAAD for elevating the images and messages that accelerate acceptance in every family.”

“That mission means even more to us now as we raise all of our Black children,” Union added. “Black lives matter and Black trans lives matter. We are calling on all of our racial justice warriors on the market to open their hearts and their minds to the LGBTQ+ neighborhood in order that we are able to work collectively and empower one another and save lives. The exhibits nominated by GLAAD for Outstanding Drama Series empower us as effectively, giving LGBTQ+ folks and their allies the alternative to think about each chance.” 

Wade and Union have each spoken publicly about Zaya and their delight in her. “Meet Zaya. She’s compassionate, loving, whip smart and we are so proud of her. It’s Ok to listen to, love & respect your children exactly as they are. Love and light good people,” Union tweeted in February. 

“Everyone allow her to re-introduce herself her name is Zaya Wade!” Wade posted on Instagram in March. “Last night time was Zaya’s first purple carpet and we couldn’t have been prouder of how she dealt with the questions that have been requested of her. She has emerged as considered one of the younger faces and voices for the LGBTQ+ neighborhood. #truthawards.” 

And when some criticized them on social media, Wade tweeted, “Hey social media keep the hate coming…It will only make the love stronger.”
